The Mandel Public Library will present a showing of FREADOM: Spectrum of Banned and Burned to kick off Banned and Burned: Literary Censorship and the Loss of Freedom, a series of events taking place from Nov. 7, 2012 until Jan. 6, 2013 that will feature the traveling exhibition Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings from the US Holocaust Museum.
The “FREADOM” kick-off party will begin with a reception featuring music censored in Nazi Germany, and will be followed by an interview with Holocaust survivor, Jim Bachner. Facilitators Eileen Shapiro and Jim Sugarman will give an overview of the programs and special events on literary censorship, tolerance and the Holocaust that will take place during the 8 weeks of the exhibition.
