fuelperksShoppers who participate in Winn-Dixie’s fuel rewards program receive discounts on gasoline.

To earn and use the discount, shoppers must buy groceries at participating Winn-Dixie stores and purchase gas at participating gas stations. Phone a local store to make sure they are participating.

The discount earned is based on the amount spent at the participating grocery stores when shoppers use the new  Winn-Dixie Reward cards with a magnetic strip.

For each $50 worth of qualified groceries, the discount is five cents a gallon, up to 20 gallons. Boost the discount with bonus items, which switch  each week and are worth an extra discount of five cents to 50 cents a gallon.

Information about the program is available on the Winn-Dixie web site.

If you haven’t already, make sure you meet the March 1 deadline for filing for homestead exemption in Palm Beach County. Most homeowners can get a $50,000 exemption in the taxable value of their homes, and senior citizens, widows and veterans are eligible for additional exemptions. If you had an exemption last year, you don’t need to refile. But you do need to file a new application if you bought a house in 2011.

File out an application and take it to one of these county offices. You can also file online.

cover-florida-logoDoes the cost of health insurance not fit into your current budget? Have you lost your job and with that lost your health insurance? Have you been denied health insurance because of preexisting conditions? Although all would seem to create nothing more than a big headache  and you may think the only thing you can do is give up, there are options available for yes, get this, health insurance that is affordable.

The Cover Florida Health Care Access Program makes affordable health care available to the 3.8 million uninsured Floridians. Tax dollars were not used to create these programs, but rather six private insurance companies have partnered with the state of Florida to offer affordable alternatives. These programs offer different options, but may include coverage of preventative services, screenings, office visits, office surgery, urgent care, prescriptions, medical equipment and diabetic supplies.

The programs are available to all applicants from 19-64 who have been without health insurance for at least 6 months and who are not eligible for a public health insurance program like Medicare or Medicaid. In addition, you are also eligible if you lost your coverage due to a loss of job that provided an employer-sponsored health benefit plan, death of or divorce from a spouse who was provided health benefits through his/her employer, or exhaustion of your COBRA coverage.

Rates start at $23.70 and go up from there. Definitely worth checking out. For more information, visit Cover Florida Health Care online.
