The Palm Beach County Archaeological Society is hosting a free lecture titled: “Why Most of What We Think We Know About Archaeology Is Wrong, and What We Should Be Doing Instead”or Finding Teotihuacan and other Black Swans on February 23, 2012. Presented by Dr. Clifford Brown from the FAU Dept. of Anthropology, the lecture will begin at 7:00 pm at the West Palm Beach Public Library located at 411 Clematis St on the 3rd Floor in the Clematis Room.
Dr. Brown will discuss the application to archaeology of John Ioannidis’s famous paper, “Why Most Published Research Findings Are False”. He will then discuss the unintended consequences of confirmatory hypothesis testing research designs in archaeology and explain why we should focus our efforts instead, on hypothesis-generating research. He will conclude with an unusual example.
