If you haven’t been to Wellington lately, it’s time to make a trip — if for nothing else than to visit Pangea Bistro. Get ready to experience five star cuisine in a casual environment — thanks to Chef Ryan Vargas who previously had spent some time at the Wynn Las Vegas, Four Seasons Palm Beach and the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. The menu combines Hawaiian fusion cuisine with an international flair, and from the moment you walk inside, your senses will be awakened with his creative culinary creations.

During the month of July, Pangea is doing a facebook blitz where they will be giving a free appetizer away to their fans each day during happy hour (3-7 pm). Every day, visit their facebook page to find out what the giveaway will be that day. Then, visit Pangea Bistro during happy hour, order something — anything (their house wine starts at just $2.50 during happy hour) and you’ll enjoy the appetizer of the day for free.

One day last week, it was Chorizo Beef Empanadas, another it was Wild Mushroom Potstickers — it’s a surprise everyday, so keep visiting their page to find out  what they will be offering.

Pangea Bistro is located next to the Wellington Green Mall, 10140 W Forrest Hill Blvd, Wellington

carrepairWhen the mechanic comes out with the estimate of how much it will cost to fix my car, I am nearly always stunned. Can it really cost that much?

If you want a second opinion, check RepairPal, which provides free estimates on repairs to most cars, customized by ZIP code. You can access RepairPal on your computer or get the freeiPhone app.

RepairPal joins several similar services: DriverSide, which is also free, and FairRepair, which charges $9.99 for an estimate once you enter your VIN number but gives you that cost back as a rebate if you use one of their participating mechanics, who have promised to honor the estimates.

RepairPal launched last year. In addition to providing repair estimates, it explains the purpose of the repairs, outlines problems specific to your car’s make and model and has a forum where you can get answers to questions. You can even keep your service records online.

Some local repair shops are listed with reviews, but that part of the website isn’t yet complete.

Wouldn’t it be great if there were an easy way to give your unwanted but perfectly good stuff to someone who needed it? And a way to get stuff that’s perfect for you but doesn’t work for your neighbors any more?

There is, and it’s called Freecycle. It’s a great way to work with your neighbors to save money and save the environment by recycling within the community.

Palm Beach County has four Freecycle groups, in West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Wellington and picture. To participate, go to www.freecycle.org and pick the group you want to join. Once your membership has been approved, you’ll receive an e-mail with instructions. Read through the rules and then offer items you’d like to give away and watch the postings for items you’d like to receive.

In eight months on Freecycle, I’ve found it’s easier to give than to receive. You have to move fast when someone posts a desirable item, and you have to be able to pick it up quickly. But I found Freecycle an excellent way to find new owners for furniture, cleaning products, nonperishable food and other items I wanted to shed when I moved to another house. In return, I’ve received a colorful Brazilian painting, the best lamp in my house and a full set of Crate & Barrel white dishes, plus some extra pieces.
