Did you save money on your last shopping trip and come home with a little extra cash in your pocket? Well, how would you like to save some more? We’ve put together a list of five of our favorite money-saving apps that will save you money nearly every day of the week.
What money-saving apps do you use? Tell us about them in the comments section.
Everyone likes to get rewarded for shopping and Shopkick is at the top of its game. Once you download this app (available for both the iphone and android), you can earn points (kicks) for doing little tasks such as opening the app when you walk into a store. Once you earn enough points, you can redeem your points for gift cards to your favorite stores or other fun products. You can also earn kicks by scanning certain products; scanning your receipt; connecting your credit card and then shopping at select stores; and telling your friends about the app.
Another shopping app that you should have readily available is Ibotta. Download the app on either your Android or iPhone; unlock the rebates by completing a simple task; go shopping; verify your purchases of the rebates that you unlocked (scan the bar code and capture the receipt); and you’ll get cash back. Popular retailers like Publix, Target and Macy’s all participate in the Ibotta program.
For online shopping, there are coupon codes for everything, but it is nearly impossible to keep track of them all. To get rid of that frustration of not finding what you are looking for, let us introduce you to Honey, a shopping extension (ok, this this one isn’t an app quite yet) that works like magic. Install the extension on Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Opera. After doing so an ‘h’ button will appear in your browser bar. When you go to checkout, click the ‘h’ or ‘Find Savings’ button in the browser extension and Honey will automatically find and apply the best coupon(s) for you.
While we’ve included Honey, because it truly is a time-saving and money-saving app that we adore, you can sign up via our link and we both will get some added perks — HoneyGold.
If Honey doesn’t find what you are looking for, you can always go to a site like Retailmenot.com or simply google, the name of the store that you’re shopping at + coupons to dig deeper.
Are you looking for a last minute hotel deal? Then, download HotelTonight (available in the app store and google play) and see the savings. This app helps hotels fill empty rooms so it’s a win-win for everyone. With Hotel Tonight you can search up to a week in advance, but the best deals from this money-saving app come out at noon the day of and again at 6 p.m. Sometimes, it pays to live a little on the edge.
If you’re in a city that you are unfamiliar with, finding a parking spot can be quite a frustrating endeavor — and extremely pricey too. So rather than spend a fortune on parking, download this handy BestParking app and spend your money on something a bit more exciting. BestParking — available for parking in a city or at the airport — searches the place where you are (or are planning to go) and gives you a map of the different parking rates across the area. There you have it — instant savings.
