You can’t get away from the fact that right now, non-profits are hurting. People are watching every penny they spend and that often means that instead of donating $20 , that money will now go into your piggy bank. While you may not be able to donate cash, non-profits are still in need of your help. One website that you should check out is Volunteer Match. It is a great resource to learn about available opportunities in your area.
While many people say they would like to help, but don’t know where to begin this is a perfect starting point. You will learn about positions available in your area (and there are even virtual opportunities available). The process is simple:
- Go to Volunteer Match
- Type in your location and key words
- Search through the listings
- If you’d like to sort by date or distance from you, you can do that too.
Some opportunities are for only 1 date, while others are ongoing, so check out the listings and see what you can find.
Besides helping out organizations that are in need, volunteer opportunities are a great way to get into otherwise expensive events. For instance, if you are a sports fan and are dying to go to the Superbowl in 2010, I hear they are looking for volunteers. In fact, you can email them if you are interested.
