MorikamiMorikami Museum and Japanese Gardens will host the 37th annual Hatsume Festival this weekend, Saturday, April 16 – Sunday, April 17 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. This festival celebrates the beginning of spring and turns Morikami into an exciting Japanese festival perfect for the entire family. Guests will enjoy three stages of entertainment, artisan craft and plant vendors, a Japanese food market, sake, beer selections and more.

Activities planned for the weekend include martial arts; bonsai & Japanese flower arranging demos; taiko drumming performances; character meet and greet; an anime-inspired costume contest and more.

Single day passes for Hatsume Fair, purchased at the gate, are priced at $15 for adults (ages 11+) and $10 for children (ages 4-10). Discounted tickets and 2-day passes are offered exclusively online in advance at www.morikami.org. Museum members and children 3 and under enjoy FREE entry to the festival. sisyuThe Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens will feature 2 special artists’ presentations this Sunday, Dec. 15th starting at 12:30 p.m. These presentations are free with paid museum admission.


  • 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. — Presentation by Sisyu, Calligraphy Artist – Calligraphy demonstrations & talk about the origins of kanji.
  • 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. — Presenatation by bamboo craftsman Tanabe Shochiku – presentation and gallery talk about his work in the Morikami’s current exhibit, Contemporary Kōgei Styles in Japan.
  • 4:45 – 5:00 p.m. — Contemporary Kōgei Styles in Japan gallery walk with Tanabe Shochiku

Tickets will be distributed on a first come first served basis in the museum lobby starting at 10:00 a.m. on Sun., Dec. 15th. Ticket quantities are limited and cannot be reserved in advance.
